Without addressing the potential problem, organized street gangs could take control of blocks and create a sweeping change to Oak Park's demographic landscape.

The sudden fame that came with Catherine Vogt's middle school social experiment came quite unexpected. "I really did not expect it to go to 'Vroom,' really crazy," Vogt said. "I just expected to do it as a report, turn it in for extra credit for my teacher, maybe tell a newspaper. Then it kind of took off."


The state swimming meet being held at Evanston High School on Friday and Saturday will likely be viewed as a plus for Mary Kate Campbell. The Fenwick junior should be accustomed to the boards and have a high level of confidence after placing third at the Evanston Diving Invitational on Oct. 18.
